There's body roll when you crack the wheel, but it's quick, perfectly controlled, and deliberate. Aluminum and carbon-fiber trim add to the sporty feel. Potholes, uneven pavement, and speed bumps make daily driving the M2 Competition not much fun. When it does bite, though, the car becomes a Formula Drift champion. It might sound like a sea of black, but attention to detail brings out the best in this interior. The Supra wants to be driven a specific way.

Like any dedicated performance car, the M2 has its drawbacks - such as a stiff ride and a healthy appetite for premium gas - but for those who buy these cars knowing precisely what they are, it's all part of the game. At lower speeds on normal roads, the M2 bumps and crashes over even the slightest imperfections, and could get tiring very quickly if it wasn't for its other strong points. When presented with a fun motorway entrance ramp, I could quickly tap M1 and have the car ready to attack. In fact, its bulging fenders, quad exhausts, oversized 19-inch wheels, and add-ons from the M parts bin have turned the 2 Series into an aggressive-looking machine. Road or racetrack, the M2 is like a shaken bottle of soda. The 2019 M2 Competition is better than the car it succeeds, retaining the magic that makes it so brilliant yet still benefiting from a number of substantial changes to the powertrain and platform.
